Ham Rong Mountain

This park is essentially a long cobblestone walkway to the top of Ham Rong Mountain.   It’s a strenuous climb, but the panoramic vista at the top is well worth tackling all those stairs.  Along the way, there are countless potted orchids, beautifully landscaped gardens and a few really tacky statues of cartoon characters like Scooby Doo and Mickey Mouse.   One word of caution, the stone stairs could be treacherous on a rainy or misty day.   To find the park just take the road to the left of the church as you are going downhill from the center of Sapa.  The road is about 100 meters and the park is on the left at the end.   The park fee was 70,000 VND per person and you purchase the tickets at the entrance of the park, just in front of the Thai Binh Hotel.  From there just start walking up the steps.  There are a few different routes up the mountain, but you really can’t get lost and no guide is needed.   The first viewing area (a platform on a lower peak with a giant thatched umbrella) was about half-way up the mountain, so keep going if you want the best view.
